There was an unprecedented move to check alcohol producer standards during 2008. The Portman Group commissioned management consultancy, PIPC, to analyse a random sample of 485 drinks against the Code to consider if they might breach it.
PIPC considered that 93% of products were definitely compliant with the Code. Producers of 18 drinks considered potentially non-compliant voluntarily took remedial action. 10 products, however, were referred to the Independent Complaints Panel with 2 found in breach of the Code.
